What news from beta.8a.nu ?

Hi, What news from the beta? Thanks for the job :-)
I have started to copy the news from the current site to the new beta site. So we are getting closer to show it for the public :)
You look at the calendar and we're in the brand new "twienties". You look at 8a.nu and we're still back in the "nineties". Additionally now the "nineties" look-and-feel of the website is emphasized by the the typical "nineties"-like performance and reliability of the server. You may be interested to know, that at least three well known climbers, who wish to stay anonymous, have e-mailed me last week and they all told me that there will never be a new version of this website, as it will soon be dead, along with its barely living server. Move along, nothing to see here. (1st attempt to send the reply - server error) (2nd attempt to send the reply - ActiveX exception)
Hi Freddie, we would be happy to give you and your pro climbers friends access to the new site. Please sign up. Cheers, Matthias

Hey, any news since the last weeks? If the beta site cannot be released, can the webmaster maybe make sure that this site is working properly? Number 34 in the World ranking game has not been climbing any route for more than 12 months (for example). ;) Thanks!!!
That bug has been like that for 1,5-2 years now. Sadly the site is dying and breaking, probably due to the code being outdated. I guess they can both measure that the traffic is flatting out or is getting lower. You can see it by how few comments the site gets now, as it's almost impossible to post without several errors. Current users don't want to waste time getting errors when trying to tick their routes etc. New climbers will just laugh at the site's problems, and go somewhere else (not that there is a good alternative yet). The new beta site in the current state will not fix this, it's far from ready. So if anyone want's to overtake 8a's position, 2020-21 might be your time.
Hey everyone, I have developed my own ascent tracking available at https://clog.rocks Idea is for it to be clean, simple and straightforward to use, there is some nice functionality there but not all of my ideas are implemented yet. I am looking forward to hear any opinions or criticism about it should you decide to give it a go. I am thinking of making it open source at some point. Have fun and stay safe.
Hi Kamil, I just registered and had a glance. Does look very clean, nice. Adding a new route is however a bit a pain. One has to click multiple times to get to the highes level (crag). There should be a single view where one can enter all the information, country, crag, sector, route. People would have to use this functionality a lot at the beginning to build the database, so it should not require 5 clicks to add a missing route ( that is assuming that the crag is missing, which very likely will be the case initially). Now you just have to convince everyone to switch from 8a to your site and build the database ;) Open source would be nice though and a big plus I guess. Cheers
Hey Jannik, thanks. for your feedback. I agree with you and will definitely spend some time to make that workflow easier, you had a very good point. Thanks! Please let me know if there is anything else!
Hi Kamil, I also checked out your site. It looks clean and nice. But it's way too much work to add a crag, sector, route and finally log your ascent. It's unrealistic to expect someone to import their scoreboard if they have to spend over an hour to do so.
Hi Kamil, why reinventing the wheel? There are several nice ascent tracking services out there which are much eeasier to use than 8a.nu. For example thecrag.com, 27crags.com, sendage, ukclimbing, mountain project to name some of the bigger players. It seems pretty hard to catch up with the huge data base of those...
Lando: I will improve that workflow at some point soon, it was already mentioned by Jannik and I absolutely agree. Mike: I required some functionality that I am not sure exist on other sites but more importantly it was my learning project. Wanted to learn some new technologies.
@kamil On the glance page it's written ad new sascent.. I have almost 5000 ascents log on 8a.nu. It's ridiculous to log them all over again. It should be some function like import ascent from..
Bumping this
No need to bump. Most likely the new version is a victim of COVID-19 (;

Why does the most current and newest post of a thread show up on page 8, instead of page 1? I have to cycle through 8 pages of 3 year old forum replies to see the newest post. Just encountered something... If i hit the "return" button, it doesn't make a new parragrpah. it puts the cursor back to the top of the message. try it... Honestly you should have beta tested this thing hundreds of times with a limited set of users before making it public.
