Watch out for loose rock

Audrey Sniezek, below 50 kg, reminds us how dangerous climbing is holding a broken tufa in her hands in Secret Garden, Kalymnos. Here is an old safety article. - A large tufa block on Floodgates in Kalymnos came off while I was moving on it. It took me off the wall with it. There was no way I could have held it since I was between moves with one hand on one side of the tufa and a kneebar on the other. I flipped upside down as the tufa crashed down below. Fortunately, no one was underneath and my belayer was a few meters left of the smash zone. Everyone, including myself, was ok. Just a note, both Dougal and Said climbed this same stretch of rock just before me, but it was me who managed to rip off a tufa. Hmmmm.....too much Greek food?
