How to edit existing route grade?

Hello! I recently bolted a new crag and put up a list of routes and grades. As it is often the case, we didn't get every grades rights on the first repeat and now some changes have to be made. How can I edit the grade of a route?

Here is a example: this one should be 7b+ and not 7c : https://www.8a.nu/crags/sportclimbing/switzerland/oberes-bolti/sectors/zen-forest/routes/mission-veranda/

Hi Romain, unfortunately you currently can't edit a route grade. We periodically adjust grades if the DB grade is different from the majority of the ascent grades, and there are enough ascents (we've been doing >5 ascents and a difference of <3 grades). This of course takes some time to come into effect. What we can do is that you send me the routes and the correct grades and I correct them directly in the DB. If you prefer that, please send me the list (ideally the link to the route the correct grade, e.g. 'https://www.8a.nu/crags/sportclimbing/switzerland/oberes-bolti/sectors/zen-forest/routes/mission-veranda/, 7b+' to [email protected]. Nice work on the new routes and thanks for adding the description to the crag page. Best, Ben

Drew

Does the personal grade you give a route affect your score, or are you just sharing your opinion?

The score you get for an ascent only depends on the grade you gave to the ascent, i.e. your 'personal' grade. The grade of the route in the DB doesn't affect your score at all, and also doesn't appear in your logbook. It just shows up in route list on crags / areas, and the route page.

Drew

Thanks.

Roman Geiser has a great point. You really need a function to change the route grade in the database. This is how your website can be improved. It will help with more honest grades and consensus grading. It seems essential and there are 10s of 1000s of climbs that suffer from 8a.nu lacking this feature.

Totally agree. This especially goes wrong for routes with extensions that are only slightly harder than the 1st pitch (often all logged under the same name) and for the many many routes that have been duplicated due to misspelling, wrong crag/sector, etc. What's really needed is a moderator feature, because in most cases only a motivated human with the local guidebook and access to the crag is able to sort out the mess.

Next time we release an update, the ability to change a route's grade will be included (for the person who created the route on 8a, directly on the route page). As you know we've encountered some major bumps along the way while the moderator / admin page was in progress. The more complex merging / diverging and re-assigning of ascents will need to happen there.

More on this, is there a way to change the "sector " of a route ? I've made a mistake and listed two routes on the wrong sector of the crag... Thanks in advance !

For 'normal' users this is not possible. So you have two options: either you post the mistake here and I can fix it for you, or you consider becoming a moderator for your crag/area, than you can fix this (and other mistakes) yourself.
