Transparent routes in the scorecard!

Here is my proposal for a little modification to the scorecard and the statistic "pyramid": 8a.nu should allow users to record also routes that they have just tried but not freed. Their projects, but also routes that they have tried but won't necessarily try again in the future. (One already can do that using projects, ok, but with no impact on the routes' page appearance, as far as I know.) Obviously these routes would not contribute to the score, they will give you zero points. Neither they would be visible in the routes list by default. There should be an option to make them visible in the list, and they would be marked by a different colour, for example a transparent square box. What would it be useful for? I have always thought it would be nice to keep track of the routes that you've tried in the past. For example, I am a 8a.nu member since 2001 and often wish that I could see in the scorecard all the routes that I had tried a long time ago. I mean, if you use 8a.nu (also) as a repository of all your ascents, then why don't keep track also of the climbs that you just had a go at, but missed the redpoint/onsight? And maybe you don't want to list them among your "projects" because they simply aren't such. Moreover, what I suggest is that in the "statistic pyramid", the histogram that can be seen in your personal routes page or boulder page, there should be additional transparent bars that represent the number of routes that you have tried for each grade. It would be an additional piece of information that could tell you that some years ago you were trying harder things but succeeding less, for example. This change would be an addition to the 8a.nu database, in the sense that it would not take away anything of what already exists. It wouldn't affect the scorecard ranking in any way, obviously, and it would allow you to see at a glance what grades your friends are trying (a peaked or blunt "transparent contribute" to the pyramid would mean a more or less aggressive attitude to try hard routes). What do you think? Anyone had a similar thought?
I like your idea, though I wouldn't separate projects from abandoned projects. I don't want to have to look in multiple places for things, projects should be on the same page with ascents... transparent boxes could be both. Fuck it, you could have one transparent box for projects, another one for abandoned projects. Anyway, as long as people could turn them on or off, no one has anything to complain about and everyone wins! (except the website coders).

Thanks...we are actually thinking about doing this...but it will take some hours.
well you could add some additional styles, like pp, yp, free poit etc. tagging the ascents could be useful. also, i would be very happy if i could see my top 10 routes from 2009, not only last 12 moths and all time. seeing only trad ascents and top 10 trad ascents would be also fun.
