The Singularity finally repeated by Nalle Hukkataival

One of the great unrepeated problems! As much as I love groundbreaking first ascents, I've always had a softspots for the boulders and routes (Anything John Gaskins, Akira, Neaderthal, Marina Superstar) that go unrepeated for a decade or more. Glad to see this one get ticked.

If Nalle would have said he suggested an upgrade we would have reported it. As it stands, it is 8B+ and as it has been so many news lately, we skipped reporting it. To say that it is 8C without backing it up with opinions or facts is really strange for me.

Nobody said it was 8C. But to say that unless it is upgraded its not newsworthy, that means grades are the only important measure. I think for something graded below the cutting edge to remain unrepeated so long, with a number of otherwise "worthy" climbers attempting it, puts an aura around this climb that I think makes it news.

Grades are of course most important when deciding to report it or not. I agree that as it was not repeated for such long time makes it interesting and if it would have been last year or in a period with less news, we would have picked it up :) As a side note, I find it strange that the community including Hukkataival have not upgraded yet :)

How could anyone in the community upgrade it, when none had repeated it. As I see it, Nalle is the only one qualified to make such a call.

If an 8C boulder tries it a lot but can not do it, that person can of course suggest an upgrade. That person might have worked it for 100 sessions without success. Based on your logic, it just might be that an unrepeated 8B will never get it's credit it deserves if it is never repeated.
