Dear All I am a third year Sport and Exercise Scientist at the University Of Exeter. I am also a keen outdoor sportsman; regularly taking part in Climbing, Mountaineering and running. Moving into the final year of my degree; I have to conduct a research project on the field of my choice. Therefore I aim to explore the main themes behind Climbers motivations to engaging in rock climbing and mountaineering. I will be looking at a number of sociological themes; such as climbing as a means of escapism from society, which I am sure you are familiar with. To investigate this I will be looking to conduct a series of recorded informal interviews with a climber, possibly more than one. I am writing to you as I am particularly interested in looking at high level climbers (in the uk, preferably the south west). I appreciate you are very busy working on various projects. I was wondering whether any of you guys (yourself) or ayone you know would be interested in helping me? I would appreciate any help or advice you could give me.
