Pepole to climb near Bournemouth

Hello everyone! I'm a guy from Spain, and I will travel to Bournemouth with my girlfriend from 1 to 22 August in order to make an english course. We would like to visit some sport crags. I have heard about Portland and Swanage? It's possible to go from Bournemouth to Swanage without car (any bus, by bike, on foot??)? How are these areas in summer? It will be great to get in touch with someone to climb with. That would be great! Thank you very much!

Hello David, Unfortunately I do not leave in that area anymore, but I know it quite well as I lived there a few years ago. Swanage is a trad-only area (which means that there are no bolts) and I do not know it well. On the other hand, Portland is a fantastic limestone sport crag, fully secure and up to standard. You can find all the info on this book: http://www.rockfax.com/publications/books/item.php?id=100 From Bournemouth, it is half an hour train to Weymouth, and you can carry your bike on the train. From Weymouth train station, it is about an hour ride to the crags. I did it several times and it is very pleasant. As for crags, I suggest Blacknor to start with. Good luck and enjoy Enrico
