New Buxton Adventure Festival in Peak District (20-21 Oct)

The brand-new Buxton Adventure Festival (Oct 20-21), Peak District, Derbyshire programme includes: Saturday 20 Oct: Everest mountaineer Squash Falcolner - the first British woman to solo paraglide from the summit of Mont Blanc.  She's fresh back from paragliding off 4061m Gran Paradiso. Sunday 21 Oct:  Writer Gordon Stainforth talking about his new book 'Fiva - an Adventure that Went Wrong' which has been short-listed for the prestigious Boardman Tasker award. Gordon's talk will be followed by 2 short climbing films: 50 YEARS IN THE MOUNTAINS. British outdoor gear manufacturer Mountain Equipment have participated in every British first ascent of an 8000m peak and been part of more than 175 Everest summits.  To celebrate their 50th anniversary, they've filmed the personal reflections of some of the world's most significant mountaineers together with rare archive footage charting the past 50 years of mountaineering history. (20 mins) And in SAMSARA, Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk set out to attempt a first ascent. The film is woven together with art, journal excerpts and still photography.  Produced by the athletes, Samara is an unfiltered perspective into a powerful Himalayan climbing experience. The team spends 20 days of life on the cliff face with ten days of food through major storms on a hanging platform smaller than the size of a single bed. They push to the very edge of what they thought possible and rediscover why they are drawn to suffer in such sacred and beautiful places.
