(Magic) Wood

seeing more and more people asking for some info about bouldering in magic wood (wondering why no one cares about "being") and knowing about the actual situation up there i cant miss to make this an issue; its a sad thing about magic wood. too much people up there! its not a wood any longer its a crowdy playground (more clearly; a mess and a shame)... this place once (not long ago) really had its magic side, that was a pleasure to explore, to dive deep. away from crowd, away from this sick consumption thing. away from streets and big grey buildings. away from unnatural noise, screaming people. away from electricity. away from looking for clocks. magic wood is a very vulnerable piece of nature (way more than some other well known crags in switzerland) that is crying out loud these days! we should step back and let this place breath again, so it can regain power and magic... otherwise its going to die! as someone living nearby and visiting often i can clearly see this happen. actually its that bad, that even someone not living here and visiting often can see it! i wont blame anyone for this. actually there are many people doing great work to slow down these bad developments. but as many interventions are contra productive (building a "highway" through the wood because of the damage done to the ground and vegetation by all these heavy packed people... ??? definately wrong way!) we should open our eyes for other ways, BETTER ways... i dont have any solutions as i am not in position to give anyone any demands. but sometimes it is enough to just make clear that there are problems, even many dont see them... i hope this will be the case here! so please, if there is a possibility for you to avoid visiting the magic wood... think about it! there are sooooo many places you can visit which have way more capacity and resources to manage loads of visitors! but even with help from the commune, magic wood hasnt got this capacity and resources to survive this seemingly ongoing rush that started maybe 2 years ago... thanx for noticing!
so fate , are you committing to stop visiting magic woods or is this just a notice for everyone else? quote: "as someone living nearby and visiting often". the solution isn't often that people stop visiting but steps are taken to lesser their impact on the nature. I'm not fit to instruct in any way but there's people educated in the subject. peace
I understand Magic Wood problem, but saying ย“donย’t go to Magicย” will not solve a problem I think. I guess there are to ways: - to write some tips for everyone (collect your trash; donย’t try to find your own ways in forest and use main ones and etc. Some tips everyone can find on http://www.bodhi.ch/magic-woodenglish - limit people count leaving at camping. Advance registration could be used for coming climbers. Magic Wood is one of the best bouldering areas in Europe. A lot of climbers like it and will keep visiting it no doubt.
@hakan; really educated contribution... i knew someone was going to come up with something like this. i know i am very privileged by living nearby such a place. and you know i wouldnt stop visiting this place (actually these days i am not very psyched to go up there, because of all these people there and sadly there are lots of idiots among them). but as someone who had the honor of being introduced to this place/environment by some "locals from the first hour" i myself and lots of other "locals" have a completely different approach of being up there and enjoying bouldering there! as we dont have the pressure of sucking in this place in the least possible amount of time, because of our privileg to live here. but most people visiting show a very sick rush-hour behaviour, which is actually leading (or rather is the basis of things leading-) to many of the problems! just in case your allusions intention was to blame me... the second thing you mentioned was actually good. but there is one big problem to it... the community of ausserferrera which as far as i know is responsible for all official decisions and executions is very small. this is what i meant with capacity and resources which besides the "natural" side also has a "infrastructural" side. and here the communities possibilities are way to limited to be able to sustain all these people (their need for place, for food, for infrastructure...). certain times the camping ground is more than just full. there are no possibilities to place your car any more. so people start camping somewhere in the wood itself and park their cars just beside the road (if you know this road you know what problems are caused by this) sometimes ON the road. and this is just the infrastructural problems!  just to show you it isnt as easy to manage these things as you thought... i am working on something at the time to really show you all what is going on... its not an EGO thing, or that i want my wood back for me alone or something as you wanted to accuse me... i am really worried. and so far i am just about being disappointed and sad. but there are things happening that make me angry. as we climbers as a community are not able to protect our "playgrounds" i just understand the official side which will come up with restrictions and prohibitions. actually i would start to support this hardliner way if people are not starting to respond and do something! first couple of suggestions: - come to switzerland by public transport (no car problems, better for the air we breathe) - take small tents with you - ...
fate, i am confident that there probably is very easy public transport access. but people will never realize such things unless you provide them with the solution... So for instance find out and write down here what train and bus one should take from the south (italians), from the east (austrians) and from the north...

Thanks for your thoughts about this. Me as the owner of Bodhi Climbing whom takes care of the campground can give the following statement to the discussion going on.                                                                                    Everbody is right, that we cant stop people visiting Magic Wood at all. It to famous by now and the boulder communtity grows every year. Thats something we (locals and guys who start cleaning) gave out of our hands more then 10 years ago...and thats where everything started!                                                                           Sure this time the paths were small or not even existing. By the way, Magic Wood would be a protected nature area if the boulderers wouldnt be fast enough when they started back then. Maybe it would be better like this for most of the people, but i as a boulderer really appreciate it everytime i can dive into a land of magic. i still feel it and im sure there a lot of guys out there whom do so too.                                                                                               For those guys who just run through the forrest with their ticklist and not feeling and seeing the beauty of the place i feel sorry. As somebody who "life" at Magic i dont have the pressure of time and dont care if the project is falling today or not...i know its hard to just have two weeks and leave open stuff behind but relax sometimes and breath.                                                                                          Now after all this years passing by the tracks got bigger and the forrest lost a bit of his beauty but not of his magic! For those who visited our page you might know that there will be a small but comfortable hiking trail across the bouldering area and a wider bridge will replace the narrow metal one in the near future. this path. its not because of us climbers who need more comfort to come to the boulders. the association behind rebuild and maintain the old historic route for hikers and as this is the last part they even have pressure from the tourist departement to completing it. Once the trail is finished we will have one easy way to cross the area and from there the small trails we use. all the rest can regrown, if we stay on the existing onces! If everybody would keep the important rules for magic wood in theyr minds, there would be less litter then it is in the woods now. there must be still a lot of climbers whom cant read or they simply dont care.  At the campground we have bins for trash, plastic bottles (and only plastic bottles)- not all the plastic wrap as well, glas and cans. we also collect carton seperately. If your tent, air matress or whatever is broken, take it home and dont push it into the way to small trash bin or leave it somewhere else...For this reason we are planning a "1. Magic Clean Up Day" middle of August. Everybody will be welcome to help keeping Magic Wood Clean.  Details on www.bodhi.ch/magic-woodenglish. That doesnt mean that visitors can just leave there litter in the woods and we will carrying out on this day! Please still help at every visit and collect the zigarette butts, tape rest etc. on the boulder you stop - even its not yours! About the parking and full camping situation - The Parking at the campground is newly fenced in with guardrails. There 2 gateways to the parking. As a 2. step the parking along the street will be widened. If we have a full house, please use the parking on the other side of the street.Dont park along or on the street! we also got the allowance to camp up there in emergency- that means if the campground is already overfilled. please come and ask the stuff at the shop and dont just put up your then there! We dont want to miss it to say thanks to all those whom help us keeping it up. Your a great support, but we still not enough! if everbody helps it could be so beautiful. Thanks for your cooperation, enjoy your visit and feel the magic - it can be so simple. Team Bodhi

The human is a very greedy animal it always tend to encroach on natural land and due to this many other natural livings and trees have to bear the result of this action. If these things remain continue than one day natural beauty of the world would be history only photos will be available.Every where jungles of concrete and high buildings will replace the trees, sound of the machines will replace the sound of the birds and streams, only dogs, cow and sheep will be present.I hope that humans would understand the law of the nature and should start caring for nature.Otherwise it will become too late to start anything good.
