So is it lame to add repeats to your score? one of my hardest routes is one that I've repeated several times, and would up my score by a lot if I added everyone of them, but this seems sort of lame. Opinions?
Has been discussed several times I think. I personally add repeats because I don't care about my points in term sof competition but only for statistical reasons. And normally my repeats don't give points anyway :-) But I guess ppl who see the whole scorecard as a ranking might think of adding repeats (that add to your scores) as "cheating" since it certainly takes less effort to repeat a hard route than to climb a new project - at least in terms of time. So unless you're fighting for a top-10 spot I wouldn't care at all. Probably not even then.
For some of us there are not loads of routes of certain grades close to where one may live. and for some of us repeats may have extented periods of time, some of the first hard routes I climbed were back in 1991 and when I repeat them now I would say it takes a little work maybe even more than when first sent, not saying that after i reredpoint (repeat)something I huck 9 more laps and post all ten... but none the less it still holds the grade and you just climbed it....
From my perspective, the scorecard facilities within 8a are simply a means for climbers to record what they have done and thus measure personal performance. Nothing more. If I or anyone chooses to do the same routes/problems each year it seems to me that can only be a problem if others are trying to use the 8a records to measure their own (or someone else's) performance against mine. In which case they can choose to measure what they like, but it shouldn't affect my ability to record what I have been climbing...
Lame to add repeats to score card?
