In a lead competition, a climber has controlled the 38th hold. He reaches one hand to the bottom of the next hold (#39)... touches the bottom of that hold... and keeps his hand there for a few seconds. His body is completely stable this whole time. He then falls.
What is his score? Does he get credit as controlling the 39th hold? Or does he get 38+?
This came up in a recent local comp. Thanks for any insights.
