How to log multipitch routes

How do you log multipitch routes on 8a? If you din a 5 pitch route with the pitches graded: P1 7a, P2 7a+, P3 7b, P4 7a, P5 6c you would log it as one route with the grade 7b. But if you where at the crag and did 5 routes with the same grades as the pitches you would log 5 different routes from 6c to 7b. In a ranking you would get alot less point for doing multipitch.. should you log each pitch individualy? If you did the multipitch but couldent do the 7b pitch free, than shold you not get points for doing the 7a+ pitch, or the two 7a pitches?? The importan questions in life!!
I think you should log all the pitches separately. In the future there will be a separate multi-pitch feature.
excellent idea!
Hi, I live in Sardinia where we have many fine multipitch routes, e.g. on Punta Giradili only 45' door-to-door from where I live, or in the Gole su Gorroppu where we get to the foot of the routes  in 1:30 from our house. You can see the photos etc at www.peteranne.it/album , and descriptions on the blog www.peteranne.it/wp (search for Mediterraneo) . The "local" Sardinian climbing database, into which to date I inserted my climbs (including individual pitches of multipitch routes...got my wrist slapped for doing this) and which gives points for each climb pink pointed, called Shardrock ( www.shardrock.net ), has decided that multipitch routes can be posted under 2 conditions:- 1. that one person leads every pitch. I think this is too restrictive, since it's normal pratice to alternate leads, and this style is considered just as valid as the so-called "integral" or "personal" redpoint, there are even those that argue if the second just jumars up it's invalid. OK, the "personal" RP is a better "personal" performance, but if you alternate you have still climbed the route free, as a team, if each pitch is free climbed. On very long routes - at Giradili the routes are up to 500m - you often alternate to go faster 2. that only the hardest pitch of a multipitch route can be posted. Take the example of Sette Anni di Solitudine at Giradili: 4 pitches 6c+, 1 6c, 4 6b+, 4 5c-6b. It seems crazy to log only one pitch of 6c+ if you have done this route. There's no way that the climbing performance of doing the whole route, alternating leads, putting on the quickdraws, seconding the pitches you don't lead with a sack... can be equated to one 6c+ sports climb, with the first two quickdraws clipped, and quickdraws in place and extended... I agree with the first poster and with Jens that you should log the pitches you lead free, full stop, and am heartened that the other people here agree. I cut-and-pasted from this post to  SR, but the people who run the site don't agree, while admitting that they aren't that interested in multipitch routes...essentially their rules are like saying, "We think multipitch routes are a waste of time". Their rules positively discourage anyone from doing MP routes, even if you don't care about the "points" you can't use the site as a logbook.  Those of you who read Italian can enoy the full discussion at http://forum.shardrock.net/viewtopic.php?t=291 They even just decided not to accept DWS ascents...a bit of a bugger, as we say in English, if like me you actually are developing this activity, and which is popular. For the rules as they stand (useful also to learn a bit of Italian) see http://www.shardrock.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=11&Itemid=64 I have decided to use 8a.nu as well as the shardrock database, since it allows me to post multipitch routes properly, as well as not just incentivizing super-worked routes with an exponential points system and no credit for OS/F/2° go. Since some SR people use 8a.nu as well it will be interesting to compare. thanks Peter

Still waiting for it...
