Grade vs consensus

A route has a grade of 8a because 4 climbers recorded their ascent as 8a. After a few months, the 5 climbers with an ascent all changed their suggested grade to 7c+. How do we change the grade of the route so it shows up as a 7c+ and not 8a?

Hi Eric, until a few months ago. routes always kept the first grade given to them. We then proceeded to look at the mode of the grade distribution (with some checks such as how far apart the ascent grades are, and how many ascents) and updated some grades to consensus. This happens on the db and so we run it "manually" every so often. We'll do it again soon - if you are referring to Totem, we fixed that now.

Can't you code it automatically ? For instance, for every route that has 10+ ascents, the grade showed up is the average of every climber's suggestion. I have in mind a route that is 7a+ in the guidebook, but was 6c+ in the old guide book. And 6c+ is much more realistic, almost every ascent's comment is saying so. But the route still appears as 7a+.
