Hi there, has anybody ever had to stop climbing for a while (say a couple of months) due to a lack of gyms/rocks, eg work related BUT managed to get stornger during that time (or at least keep the strength) by doing exercises like pull-ups, front lever, hang-board, and so on? I'm well aware that during such a long time you'll probably loose the feeling for the rock so once you restart climbing it might take a few times to get this feeling back and transfer power and strength onto the wall. But has anyone ever come out STRONGER than before? I mean, in theory you should be able to gain strength without any climbing by performing those exercises, rather specific, but the absolute strength could increase. Cheers Felix
After really intensive training, a break of one month might actually help you. I mean, you won't be stronger the first time after you climb after the break but in a week or so. Some people train so much that they are actually in a need of a rest or a change of training structure. However, if you haven't been training really intensively and are having a break of 2 months, I would be really really sceptical that you could climb harder after the break in overall. Fingerboard and pull-ups will certainly help you with certain kind of climbing so campus-style problems might go after the break. All in all, it depends a lot on what kind of training you are possible to do while not climbing.
