8a do not want to promote solo climbing. Actually, even when it comes to 8b solo etc, we very seldom report this in the news. Take car :-)
didn't you start climbing so you could solo buildings??? i think a good reason for 8a.nu not wanting to promote soloing is that, people have got seriously hurt while doing it, and if people are trying to find info about climbing and end up wondering to this website. (WOW free soloing is super cool, i dont really know my own limits or how to climb, i might just go and get myself killed.) I do respect the people who do it, crazy bastards or even really high ball boulders, like Nalle's Living Large or all the stuff Kevin Jorgeson has done, especially the high balls he climbed in Progression. Crazy stuff...

free-solo is f**** dangerous and I understand completely why a website does not promote it. that doesn't mean I'm against free-solo climbing / -climbers, I have alot of respect for there ability to stay calm and focused. But if free-solo becomes mainstream or cool, alot of people are going to die!

I 100% agree with 8a not PROMOTING free soloing. As possibly the most influential climbing website in the world, it is the responsibility of the administration to determine what is, and is not negative news. I have immense respect for the solo ascents of others, but that does not mean we can be irresponsible in how we represent climbing to the world.

Thanks :-) In fact, most magazines, websites and major blogs report solo ascents and they also give extra credit for dangerous rope climbing and bouldering. Sometimes it actually turns out that the person has been wearing a harness with quick draws or somebody had a rope at the top. How lame is that? I can not count the number of times we have received info on death potential climbing...
I think real solo climber will never ask a dump question about points :) They donย’t care about points, ratings and sport. Free soloing is individual and natural. Points are not. Think about it if youย’re do. And forget free soloing.

@ Jonas T: My experince based on all info I get on solo climbers, what I read in the magazines and what I see on youtube etc, is that most solo climbers do it because they want fame. Many of the famous climbers have a solo climb in their resume and many are just obsessed talking about that they did a death potential trad route. I mean, the UK grading system actually gives extra credit for routes where you risk a serious accident or even more if you actually would die. If we were to set up a special solo category on 8a, you would see them coming and in the end serveral climbers would die.   I am not saying that it is wrong to solo climb but all media 8a.nu excluded gladely report about deth potential climbing...especially Ukclimbing.com. I am afraid that the media hype on solo climbing will eventually kill somebody just wanting the fame.
