First 8c+ in Portugal by Andrรฉ Neres!!

Andrรฉ Neres has done the first ascent of the first 8c+ in his country, Portugal. his comment: " First 8c+ in Portugal!! Today felt 8c but i can't forget that it took me over 40 or 50 tries to send it, so i guess 8c+ is fair enough. Anyway, my hardest route so far, very very proud, amazing line, pure power and resistance. Release theraphy... Finally! Vitรณriaaaa!" Congratulations Andrรฉ keep up the great work !! i write this, to give first Ascents, that are less than 9a, and their climbers, the right to be known.. Especially the leaders in a specific country, they are the ones pushing the sports forward, and leading the way for others to follow
Yeah!  Congrats Andre! The training conditions in Portugal are practically non-existent!  This is a significant push forward for the Portuguese climbing world!  There are only a couple of really small walls so it is really hard to get new people interested in climbing.  Ascents like these are a big motivation for everyone to get stronger and may attract new practitioners to the sport. p.s. The cliff where this climb is at, Meio Mango, is a new sector in Portugal, a seaside cliff with many large caves.  New lines being put up all the time and plenty of potential for more hard climbing! http://issuu.com/vertigem-mag/docs/vertigem_mag_2 -Bruno
