Anyone have any beta on the best/most accessible bouldering in Europe (primarily France and Germany) for a visiting yank who won't have a car? My understanding is that Fontainbleu can be reached by train, but requires a pretty long walk? Magic Woods or the Frankenjura easy to get to on foot from a train station? Anything at all?
Thanks,
Scott
Well, I guess Cresciano would be OK as it has a train station. Bellinzona, which is close by, is easy to get to anyway. From Bellinzona, you can also take a bus to Andeer, which is only a 10 minute busride from Averstal/Magic wood. Averstal is also easily accesible by train to Chur and then bus to Ausserfererra.
Then there's also the Vallis region in Switzerland. Places like Massongex, Branson etc. Train to Martigny and then bus I guess.
If you want to go to Cresciano, you have to take the bus from Bellinzona to the village of Cresciano, then walk up hill for about 20 to 30 minutes. The trainstation 'Cresciano/Osogna' has a bad location, it doen't help you to get to the climbing area...
There are pretty good conections to Chironico aswell!
As DD mentioned, there are good conections to 'Magic Wood' aswell. Just have a look at the homepage of the swiss railcompany SBB: www.sbb.ch and get your conections...
As far as i know, the train conections to Fontainebleau are good, but the problem are the scattered areas. A bicycle can be helpfull ;-)
Enjoy your roadtrip to europe,
Michael
