Does 8a have any policy guidance on the distinction between a crag and a sector?
I understand the concept, and some areas are very obvious (for example, Crag=Yosemite, Sector=El Capitan), but my home climbing area (St. George, Utah, U.S.) has many small cliffs separated by several miles. Each cliff probably averages only about 15 routes, but they are distinct and composed of different types of rock.
To further confuse matters, some climbers have listed St. George as the crag and others have listed the individual cliffs as crags.
Could 8a put out a little guidance on the crag vs. sector topic to help us standardize?
I think you should use the small cliffs as crag. I had a look at the database and it seems most people allready do so. I'll move the st george ascents to the correct crag //Farmor
I am sorry but there does not exist any guide and we have problems making a standardization as there are so many different cases. As an example, Frankenjura is the name for a crag where it actually takes you up to 1.5 hours to drive to different locations. In a way, the system should be based on the name that is the most common name for the crag or area. Ar you can see in the Crag we have made a new level, trying to put a destination for many crags together...like Boulder or salt like City...but once again...Frankenjura will also be the destination name as it is well known. farmor is the boss :-) so he will decide!
