hey everybody, I'm going to south africa (bloemfontein) for a year of work, and I'd love to keep climbing. any spots, be it bouldering, sport or multipitch (if there's trad, has to be easier, since I've never done that) are welcome! also, if anyone know about gyms or climbingstores in town, I'd love to know! Thank you very much in advance. Cheers, grubber
Hey grubber, I'm not 100% sure because I haven't been to Bloem for a long, long time, but I don't think there is much climbing out there. You'll have to do some roadtripping man! I think the nearest climbing to you is some trad in the Drakensberg range but I could be wrong. Rocklands for bouldering and Waterval Boven for sports climbing are quality but quite far from Bloemfontein (8-10 hours drive) One more thing, repost this forum topic on www.climb.co.za and you will get far more feedback. Most South African climbers check that website regularly. Cheers!

Apart from the above, Harrismith (aka Mount Evrest) is the closest developed sports climbing area in reasonable driving distance for a weekend away. Looking at ur scorecard you would be happiest at Rocklands in the Western Cape, fly down for a weekend! Or drive south into the Klein Karoo and get lost in the Dolerite en route to destinations in the Eastern Cape! Check out the site, also www.mcsa.org.za
