The camping in Averstal is no longer free. Because of all the work that's been done to improve the site the community has decided on a fee of CHF 5/night (~3 Euro). That's not much considering what you get.
i guess this was to be expected. I was there for a few days this summer and the toilets were pretty disgusting and the bins not emptied. Dont get me wrong I think the campsite there is great.. but when you start charging money for something you have to provide a descent level of service in return.
@ alpkid: descent level of service in return...???!!!
allready some stupid french guys have written a "comment" like you... what the f*** do u think where this campground is situated? its not in swazyland its SWITZERLAND, and here its totally vorbidden to camp ANYWEHERE in the "wild", communitys rather close a climbingsite than do anything for it... so what do u think wehre this campsite came from - from the boulder-heaven directly??!! the community paid arround 30'000 CHF ore more to build the place, they are just offering firewood, some 5'000CHF each year for the toilets and even every full bind they have to pay to get rid of it. (some 2'000CHF each year) and some crazy dudes have been thinking e.g. they can get rid of theier old tent, and placed it there... and as litter is charged in switzerland, the community had to pay arround 30CHF for that bloddy fools!!!) so its just that they are looking to get as much monney as they spend for us - i think 5CHF/night (normal swisscampfee is arround 20-30CHF/person) its a FAIR deal!!!
and if you like more service there ist the nice hotel "edelweiss" just 10minutes from the campground.
so just be a little bit thankful, they coud have easily closed the whole area - but they acted totally different than most of other communitys. so PLEASE respect the "descent level of service" - and if not: GET THE F*** OUT off OUR PLACE!!! cause we just love it to play some more years arround there and dont want to loose magic wood due some shortminded idiots!!!
THANKS to all the NICE people who have enjoyed and paid the new campground this summer - see ya next year in da wood again... ;)
Hi buoha,
i am sorry that my post came across as blunt as it did. I think the community have made a wonderful thing there with the camping, it is not often you see that kind of support for a marginal activity and it provides a sociable place for people to stay who either like to be outdoors or who have a limited amount of money.
Thanks for the heads up regarding the costs or running the site, I didnt have these and I think the more awareness there is of it the better. It would be interesting to know if the campsite has increased the numbers of people climbing in the area, and whether you think the fee of CHF 5 is enough to sustain the infrastructure needed to support the volume of climbers (emptying bins, cleaning loos etc). Is there a risk that the camping could be closed if the volume of climbers are to great for the infrastructure? After all if the toilets are dirty and the bins are not emptied something is clearly going wrong.. this is what I meant by a descent level of service.
ok, thanks for your mail - looks like some people do not know how expensive EVERYTHING in switzerland is...
well about the campground; as long as the people pay for the campground and as along as they dont spoil the place the site will be open - if not, they just close it!!! we had definitly more people this year, but it its no problem if there come some more next year... the parking will may be extended.
about the toilets; they just get as dirty as the people make them!!! so please just act like at home - so it wont be a problem at all!!! about the bins; if people just throw theier tent in there - we will have some problems with capacity... or may you have been up there as the person who normaly takes care of the place was in summer-vacation.
anyway, next year we will may habe a kiosk down there (to get fresh bred, spaghetti etc...). so the campground-fee-thing will be overwatched by the kiosk-guy, also the bin/toilettt thing - we will inform you as we have more details... greez martin
Martin.. the toilets also get dirty depending what people eat, fresh food from a kiosk could be a very good idea!
p.s. was there any damage after the big rain this summer?
