wrist injury

I injured my wrist in a motorbike accident. At first it was thought that it may have been a scaphoid fracture as the symptoms were similar but in fact it was just profound soft tissue damage. It took over six months to heal. Now when I climb anything hard the inflamation comes back and prevents further climbing as well as causing discomfort. Are there any exercises I can do to strengthen the wrist, I do rotations (twisting the wrist) with a rubber 'bungee' that seem to help, wrist curls however hurt particularly in extension. Any advice would be appreciated. The accident was over two years ago, and has prevented me from climbing at anything near my limit since, eventually I took a 18 month break from this sport in frustration but am keen to get back as I miss it so.
Hi Grigri A bit complicated to give adequate advice whithout examining your wrist. If there is no cartilage or bone damage I would advice you to do: Standing barbell finger curls - streghtens the fingers but takes load of the wrist maximum weigtht 8-12 rep 2 set Prone wrist curls and extensions - 20 reps 5 sets = rehab Wrist rolls - usin a rod with a piece oif line attatched and a weight in the end - roll the line in and out using booth extension and flexion of the wrist - submaximal and several sets Take NSAID (Voltaren 50 mg x 3 / day) and Glukosamine (600 mg / day) to keep inflammmation to a minimum Good luck Björn
Thanks Bjorn, my complication is the bone next to the scaphoid (forget the name) is twisted off by a few degrees, this seems to cause continued imflamation. But I will persevere with the strengthening, I have also located a hand clinic in my City so hope they will shed some light on the problem. Hopefully I can avoid surgery, the Orthopeadic surgeon says there is very little chance of finding anything they can fix and the procedure is extremely expensive. I have taken up surfing in the meantime!!
