Strange popping in finger,

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has had something similar to this: I climb fairly regularly in the gym as sadly I don't live very close to any climbing areas.  A few months ago, I started to notice tenderness on the inside of my left index finger, on the side of the middle finger, and closer to the palm side than to the back side of my hand.  Anyway, this never became bad, and I stayed off of crimps when it was bad.  Probably around the beginning of last December, I was doing a boulder problem that involved a cross over crimp move with that hand that was rather heavy on that finger.  A couple of days later, I started to notice that when the  finger was started in a straight position and curled, there would be a popping sensation in that finger, approximately where the tenderness had been, but only barely painful.  I proceeded to attempt to wait for it to go away, but it hasn't. This popping only occurs when the finger is straight and then curled starting with the farthest joints from the hand, there is no pop when it is straightened.  It is minimally painful, and hasn't affected my climbing, but I'm wondering what it might be and if there is something I should do about it.  I can see a doctor if that is likely to be useful.  Thanks.

This is proably a trigger finger injury -that is a tear between the superficial flexor tendon and the deep one as they are intersecting each other in the proximal phalang ( the part of the finger closest to the hand). It is called a buttonhole defect. Sometimes this can go away by itself ( then it is just an inflammation), sometimes a cortison shot is beneficial, sometimes even surgery is nessecary. In other words if it doesn't go away, with cutting back climbing, antiflogistics, heat theraphy and massage, see a doctor about this Best of luck Bjรถrn
