Ruptured gluteus maximus or something else?

Hey doctor  So, I did a bit awkward heel-hook few months ago without a decent warming up (real stupid indeed) and felt sharp pain and almost a feeling like something went out of its place for a moment. Pain/feeling located at the "folding point" between the lower part of gluteus maximus and where the longer hamstring muscles begin. Walking was a bit awkward after that on that day and afterwards the back part of this leg has been REAL stiff and hard to stretch normally.  NO can do heel hook or pressing down from high step when climbing either and it has been soon 3 months.  Bastard of a leg also keeps aching sometimes on night time and becomes numb easily and a bit sore when sitting for a while.  What do you think - should I just wait and try to work it out carefully or is there a possibility for something more severe?  Thanks a lot and have a good day / climbing!
I have the same, not as bad though. I know from experience that it will heal in my case.  But I would like to hear some easy warm up exercises to prevent this?  Seems like it is quite specific to heel hooking, and can happen in cold conditions even if you have already been warm up climbing for a while... and outside the possibilities to do actual heel hooks for warm ups can be limited...
3months is not normal for such an injury. maybe you stressd your sacroiliac joint or hip joint to much with the hook. now it's possible that your piriformis muscle is stressed. go to a doc and i'm shure he can give you an answer. hard to say what happend there.
yes, guess the doctor is the wisest choice at this point. Can now carefully perform a heel hook yet giving it weight / pressing with power is totally excluded. Also the mobility of foot when stretching it sideways, is much worse than what it is with the other foot.
Had a quite similar injury with my right leg / glutaeus maximus early this year. Happened while bouldering. I was completely warmed up and just made the wrong move at the wrong time, it was not even a hook. I guess with all reasonable care sometimes not avoidable. Took me 8 weeks to totally recover. My strategy was simply to avoid boulders or routes with foothooks, toe hook was completely forbidden. While climbing I was trying to prevent my right leg from carrying too much weight and either to jump than to risk more pain / injury. Massage as often as possible. With me that strategy worked out very well and today I have no problems at all. Have not been at the doctor, as I feel that in most such cases they can´t help. Finally nobody knows your body better than you do yourself. Take care and quick recovery ! Roland
Hi Most likely a hamstring pull, very common in socker players Stretch your hamstring at least 4 Times' per day Varm up thouroghly before stretch and easy climbing Expect 3 to 6 weeks of rehab Best of luck Björn
