Ringfinger/Forearm pain - strained tendon?

Hi Dr. 8a, a couple of years ago I hurt my left ringfinger while I was pulling ashallow three-finger pocket. I felt a stinging pain alomst all the way up to my ellbow, it got so bad that I couldn't even open a door with my left hand cos the slightest load on my ringfinger cause pain. It took several months of resting and taping the finger "away" to avoid using it and thens till it felt a bit weaker than the other ringfinger. Now two days a go I pulled a pocket with the same hand and the pain is back. Not as bad but the same pain. I can produce the pain easily by grabbing the other hand with the first phalanx of the injured finger and pulling slightly with the other hand. It starts as a pulling/stinging pain near where the finger joins the palm, then as i pull harder it extends into the finger as well as into the palm and wrist. Interestingly it's only the first phalanx, using the second phalanx doesn't cause any pain! Grimping is fine, no pain at all, only open hand where the ringfinger gets loaded causes the pain. Any idea what this could be? The doctor couldn't help me last time ... "climbing is bad for your fingers" is what he said!
Hi Tricky.. I would think that it a strain in the profundus tendon of the flexor muscles of the ring finger. That is the tendon flexing the second phalanx. try the heat/cold circulation stimulation tecnique dicussed above on the forum, Take care to stretch - maybe try some antiinflammatory drug and cut back on ovehanging climbing and sloopers for a while Good luck Björn
