Pain under shoulder blade

Hi, does anyone know of an injury that would cause pain under the shoulder blade (likely muscular?) that also causes tension in the muscles on top of the shoulder and side of the neck? I figure it's a muscle problem, but it's in a hard to treat area and I also don't know what to do for it... -D
Hi Dustin You most likely got a muscle strain in your trapetzius muscle- the muscles main function are to move and tabelize the shoulder blades , the uper portion moves and stabelize the neck. You would benefit from physiotherapy - let a physiotherapist help you to stretch och improve cirkulation in the muscle, a antiinflammatory drug (Voltaren) and warming the area (gel hot pack) would speed up recovery. The trapetzius muscle is the muscle covering the neck and the upper part of the back down to below the shoulder blades - se piicture Remember - most important - I can only make an educated guess - you should get a sports medicine trained MD to examine and diagnose your injury - this will avoid loosing a lot of time trying remedies for something you actually don't have Best of luck Björn
Bjorn! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I will try everything you suggest, including following up with a physiotherapist. Thanks again, Dustin.
im gonna go ahead and say i think its your teres minor muscle, wich originates on the lowest part of you scapula and attaches near your shoulder, you probably strained it, unless its bruised then i dont think you have anything to worry about now if it is directly underneath, then it is your subscapularis muscle, now to stretch this muscle you might lay on a couch and have you arm out to the side with your forearm straight up then down(hand toward your head) and stretch it back(toward the ground) and then up(toward the top of your head) this works for me im not very good at explanations without demonstrations...  i hope this is helpful i too have the same strains sometimes..
ok i might have been a wee bit boozy when i wrote that last night... but it will do..
Hahahaha Thanks Beau! I'll give it a shot. It sounds about right, because I have a very hard time trying to isolate the muscle that is sore through stretching...
