Foot injury

Dear Dr. 8a one month ago I tried and endless number of times a move on a slab boulder which required all of my weight (80kg) to be held by the external part of the tip of my right foot while the fingers were completely bent upwards. In the evening I had a slight pain at the basis of my right foot ring finger but I ignored it and the next day it was ok. Since then I've been tryng that boulder every week, resulting in the same evening pain, which would go away in the next day(s). Recently I noticed that there is a small hard bump at the basis of the finger when the foot is on ground, it disappears if I lift the foot. To me it looks like a bone that moves in and out of its proper position as I press or lift the foot. The pain is now almost constant but not intense (I can walk and climb normally) but it increases if I try to bend the finger in either direction. Also I must admit that after washing my shoes they are now VERY tight and I cannot keep them on for more than one route/boulder without resting my feet. Can my problem be related to or amplified by tight shoes? Thanks Fabrizio
Hi It sound more löike an overuse inflammation of the base joint - it might worsen when wearing thight shoes but the main remedy is to avoid straining the joint for a couple of weeks - climb something else (ex: an overhang with heelhooks ...) you might benefit from an antiinflammatory drug and you most certainly will benefit from an extra pair of shoes with a different fit Best björn
