Pilar (3a) | P1 5.1 35ft, P2 5.0 25ft. Free solo. Park on the north side of Hwy 340 at south east junction of the Shenandoah and Potomic Rivers. There are 3 old bridge pillars crossing the Shenandoah River at that junction that form a perfect line pointing to this pillar about 80 yds above the road. P1 starts on the NE side of the pillar in a broken dihedral. Probably never been climbed. Spits you out on a big ledge on the south east side of the pillar and at the base of the final pitch. A manditory 5.0 move around the right side of the small roof will take you to the top. I can imagine P2 to the top to have been done as far back as the confederates and would not claim FA, but FA is possible. |
