This climbing area was born from the pioneering work of local climbers Pedro Melo, Ernesto Silva and Luรญs Guimarรฃes. They started by cleaning and equipping the โRatattouilleโ route, on June 3, 2012, returning a few days later to equip the โTrinca Espinhasโ (also known as โCompridaโ). In mid-July, moved by the potential that seemed great on that wall, Paulo Vaz joined, equipping classics such as โFonteโ and โOde to Jรณiaโ. Joรฃo Pereira (local climber), made his contribution, leaving his name on the โMulataโ and โChapaโ routes. A couple of years later, Paulo โJรณiaโ Rego, Tarso Costa and Za Patxillas expanded the number of routes by equipping โEstica Esticaโ, โSรฃo Sebastiรฃoโ, โDolmenโ and others. The scenery was much more composed, but there was still room for lines that would make the area more complete and diverse. Starting their equipment work in 2019, Tomรกs Fontes and Bruno Bagnari expanded the offer by opening routes such as the โRichter Scaleโ, โSaltimbrocasโ, โQuarto Crescenteโ, โHoras Extraโ and โOde Triunfalโ, placing this area climbing in one of the most interesting and well developed in the Azores. It is also one of the largest to date, with more than 40 equipped routes.
