The Frontiersman (7B+) | Delightful boulder. Climbed it twice in succession. Took me three hours to find this thing with no parking or approach beta, just a satellite image from Google maps. Managed it first try from the bottom after testing the moves to make sure they wouldn't fuck my already-fucked TFCC. Idk about the grade—every additional inch of height makes the crux slightly easier. Maybe it's V9 if you're under a certain height (sub 5'8"?), but if you'd told me this was V7 I'd have probably believed you. Easier than Damn Yankees, Raindance, and The Painter, imo. |

The Frontiersman (7C) | My first mistake was showing up with an R3 and a triple pad, neither of which was equipped with a waist strap.. The next was immediately taking a wrong turn. Long story short, what should have been a chill hike turned into a nearly hour long bushwhack. To make things better, about halfway through the onslaught of shrubberies, both shoulder straps on the R3 blow out.. After shuffling my clearly highly effective and recommendable pad situation around, I managed to tough the last of the trek to the boulder. Darkness fell promptly after arriving, and come to find out, my headlamp was actually dead as a doornail, and both floodlights were running on empty.. No time to complain though; I was rapidly running out of battery. So, I strapped up and went to work. An hour later, I was trudging back up the hill, just the faintest blip of light in the darkness, trying my best to ignore some big animal to my left and not get lost for a second time before both lights went out. They say to live is to suffer, and to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering, but I pushed off the urge to ponder that until I got back. Or maybe I didn’t and I’m still out there somewhere, logging from the abyss.. |
