DESCRIPTION
30 Jan 2021
Usually dry during and just after rain. If it has rained a lot or snow is melting most of it generally stays dripping wet for several weeks. The lower part of the cave gets wet easily with the exception of Abysse. The upper part stays dry for much longer, especially Trainspotting and Fred Feuerstein, but can also get soaking wet with a lot of rain. No fire in the cave! The smoke accumulates in some areas and makes them smell for days (especially near Abysse) and also reduces friction significantly because of smut on the holds. Since it's an urban crag using floodlights and playing music shouldn't be a problem for wildlife reasons and can be seen regularly. The crag is frequently visited by tourists who want to see the cave and other people who barbecue there, be sure to be respectful towards those people. Ask people if they are fine with music, turn it off without asking when other people, especially tourists arrive. During winter the cave is also inhabited by bats who use it as a place to sleep. They usually sit in cracks in the very top of the roof or in deep holes. The climbing holds don't seem to be affected, since they are on the very surface. This is also another reason not to start a fire in the cave, the smoke can be hazardous to the bats!

ACCESS

There is an official parking lot on top of the crag (Schaffhauserstrasse) and also near the base of it (Kesslerlochstrasse). When parking at the bottom be sure not to park at the end of Kesslerlochstrasse, the very end is reserved for Rail-Kontor and they need their trucks to be able to access the roads.
