La Rambla and the history of grading

La Rambla was set up by Alex Huber in 1994 as an 8c+ and in 2003, Ramon Julian Puigblanque continued the original bolted line calling it 9a+. It is a beautiful high quality 45 m long route that can be seen from the road up to Siurana. In 2008, Alex has said that the extension does not add any relevant difficulty and that his 8c+ grade was based on the fact that also Action Directe was considered 8c+ before it got upgraded. Later also some of Hubers routes have been upgraded by Adam Ondra. Ramonet, video has stated that his grade was based on a difference sequence and that later repeaters did not do the same crux as they did go around it. Huber's first anchor has later been taken away and in total there are close to ten guys who have done the La Rambla (extension) which today has a consensus grade of 9a+. (c) Heinz Zack

โ€I stopped focusing on competition bouldering after last yearโ€™s World Cup in Prague, partly because I can already feel it on my body, especially in my shoulders.
