Flash?

Is it flash when you touch the holds of a boulder? I dont know what I should say...Flash is to climb something with prior knowledge, if I know how the holds feels it is some kind of prior knowledge We discussed and lots of people said it´s "not allowed" What do you think?
So it seems we can agree upon, "Only what is reachable from the start" in the Poll. I mean, if it is not a defined start you can touch all holds were the boulder start and choose how you want to start it. (If it is a sit start, you can touch the holds you reach from a sitting position.)
Jens, either you did not read any single post or you are just joking.
@Dan. how about: Onsight: Just visual information (no beta!) Flash: Visual and/or Verbal information (beta) 1st attempt: Visual + Verbal + physical information (feel/weight the holds, not allowed to try individual moves)
@Pascal - That's a perfect summary! @A0 - It is clear enough and it is clearly an attempt to bend the rules. @Grubber - Brushing holds doesn't give you any more information that what you can see or be told from someone else unless you've gone so far as to put measuring lines on you brush so you can see exactly how deep a hold is... ridiculous.  When I brush a hold it's to prep the hold, chalk on or off, not to find out any information about it simple as that, maybe you do otherwise, if you do that just makes you a cheater.  With regards to there not being "any defined start holds," simple, you ALWAYS start from the lowest possible start point, there's usually a ton of chalk on these holds.  Alternatively, you could try reading a guide book or asking a local.  If that all fails and you're trying a "stand-start" to a "sit-start" problem in an area that you got to with no guidebook with no locals around then I guess you just start where the most logical looking start holds are and if you start in the wrong place I guess you just blow your flash, awww shucks.... and at the end of the day if you're not sure you don't record it as a flash, or say where you started and that you weren't sure if that was the start or not. But seriously, Pascal nailed it.
nah... brushing definitely gives you information, especially if you use a brush on a stick to reach high holds. It tells you how sharp or slopey a hold is, how big it is etc... And in fontainebleau it is not normal to do a sitstart. Alot of (if not most) problems have standing starts, except maybe in 8th grade (V10?). Usually every possible starting hold is chalked up because everybody tries all the possible starting holds before taking off (taking off is often a hard part of the problem). And it is not uncommon for different people to use different starting holds, depending on height and personal preference. There are so many problems in the forest that it is impossible to describe everything in a guidebook. So Grubber has some good points imo
thanks jaap! (and bleausards are indeed spoiled rotten :) and let's keep it friendly, shall we dan?
Here we go again, " So it seems we can agree upon, "Only what is reachable from the start" in the Poll." @ A0: It seems you have misunderstood what I wrote. Please read the post of Jaap which I agree upon.
Pascal - a perfect summary, time to start using it. >> @ A0: It seems you have misunderstood what I wrote. It is truly unbelievable... Some people can't change
Yes Krzysztof/Dan/Pascal/Thebon. We all explained properly what such style is, but never enought for cutting corners and stubborn people.
Nevertheless, there will be always people who touch the all holds and still claiming a Flash ascent like those ones who score goals with their hands as long as referee does not notice. "Maradonas" are in every sport.
