“Area”

Hi, as a moderator of Turkey, I realized that now there are two areas created; Geyikbayırı and Aladaglar. I talked with locals and route developers and I would like to inform that, in Turkey, no such concept as an “area” exists and all our climbing spots are crags. This creates a misunderstanding for the climbers in our region while using the app. I would like to kindly request to remove the areas and return it to the original state. Sincerely…

Hey, crag and area are just how we organise the entities on VL, so anything that has its own access/approach/coords should be a crag, and bigger places that have familiar names should be areas. This is relevant for the UI in many places. That allows us to meaningfully show seasonlities and grade distributions, etc, and to avoid having sectors that are km apart. Otherwhise I might be in Cımbar and all the stats and route lists are distorted by the hundreds of routes in Kazıklı Ali (besides the fact that these spots are kms apart). This is independently of where that place is. The introduction of new areas was now done in the context of a new map that we are working on.

I see your point, then I can say that Geyikbayırı is not an “area”. “Antalya” is an area and Geyikbayırı, Çitdibi, Öküzini, Reverance, Akyarlar etc. are crags.

I’ve discussed again with the local bolters and we decided the “area” names. Aladaglar is correct but we should delete Geyikbayırı (area-

it is a crag). Can you please create “Antalya”, “İzmir”, “Bilecik”, “Marmara”, “Adana” as an area and I’ll add the correct crags under the names.

Hey, I still think Geyikbayırı is a case similar to Rodellar. With so many different routes, it is too big for the crag ui as it is and it will be more practical for use on VL if it is an area, with over 1000 routes on different walls (even if of course they are close together). It's also a world famous, popular destination that would be nice to show on the map without zooming in (you cannot see this yet because the map is not released yet, but you will). Why do you think it should be a crag, beside the words crag vs area? I have created the other areas for you to fill. Thank you for doing that! Note that we have cases similar to Antalya and Geyikbayırı, where there is one area inside another, in for example Spain: Cordillera Cantrabica and Picos de Europa.

Hey, I understand that Geyikbayırı is a different case and if it is more practical like this, its ok. I’ll arrange the other areas, thanks for your effort.
