Birkenhead Bouldering Comp

We went to the first round of the 'memorial boulder comp' at BLC last wednesday. It was a bit different to anything i'd been to before but heaps of fun. The problems were creative and interesting. There was a twist too, with a no-matching rule and compulsory use of every hold. Initially I was put off by these rules (all of my sequence scouting and miming was now useless) but it made it more challanging and enjoyable in the end.

There were 21 problems all up, separated into easy, medium and hard grades, with one hour to complete them all. The time worked out pretty nicely. They finished with a dyno and a campussing comp while the scores were tallied, as ususal this was a crowd pleaser.

There was a pretty poor turn out and many were just spectators so everyone should go next time, Wed 18th March. Thats the day after st pattys so we should all have a nice hangover to ensure an empty mind and smooth moves.

These guys are raising money for the canyoning tragedy and to put up a memorial boulder wall at the AUT campus in the shore.

P.S. I am laying down the challenge to the strong men and ladies in Auckland. Come and test your might and help support a good cause while having some fun.
