New names for Sit Starts: YES or NO?

Monday, 18 October

Discussion/Jens: 8a reported that Paul Robinson did open Ill Trill, a 13 move 8C in Magic Wood. Bernd Zangerl, who is one of the pioneers in Magic, said he had already done the 11 move finish from a stand start, calling it Wovenhand, 8B. Referring to older ethics, Bernd says in the 8a forum that renaming sit starts is wrong. We, the climbing community, establish and spread ethics. We cannot say anything is officially correct or not: there is no universal standard. That said, I agree with Bernd that, normally, sit starts should not be given new names. Of course Paul did nothing wrong. He did not even know of Bernd's stand start, and was surprised to learn it was a line. What do you think about naming/renaming sit starts?
