merging areas

Hello,

I think this currently isn't possible but as i was cleaning up Laos i noticed a lot of sectors in Thakhek are double created as areas with 1 or 2 ascents in them. I renamed them all but this doesn't merge them. Here is what im referring to:

As a suggestion - can those newly renamed areas be automatically merged into the already existing ones ( i guess the the one with most lines or oldest one)? There will always be a missing sector name, so then i think they should all go into Unknown and can be managed later on

Hi Petar,

I understand your frustration with all these duplicated crags. But this also looks like an extreme case.

Renaming a crag does not automatically trigger a merge. The best solution is to merge the sector from the duplicated crag into the main crag. This leaves an empty crag, which you can delete, or we will delete them automatically at some point.

We are very careful with automated merges of crags, as there are very common names (for example “Red Wall”), which are actually different crags and an algorithm has a hard time differentiating this. Therefore, we do not do any automated merges on the crag level right now.

All the best,

Simon

makes sense! thanks!

Hi Simon, how to proceed for suggesting a merge or directly do a merging?
