6 Japanese female Top-12 in qually

Janja Garnbret and Miho Nonaka topped all five boulders in their respectively group. Noteworthy is that Japan had six female in the Top-12 which is a new record for them and confirms their up-going trend. Complete results

Miho leads by five points ahead of Akiyo Noguchi in the overall ranking. Akiyo needs to be at worst #2 and beat Miho in order to win. Janja has only competed in two Boulder WCs in 2018 (1 - 2) and if she continues on that level she will probably be #4 overall.

How strange, after reading about Japanese domination in each and every article here on 8a, the winner of the 2018 world cup is -- Slovene! :P

I think that 6 male Japanese Top-10 and 5 female Japanese Top-11 says it all.

Japan will have more than double as many points as the runner up overall. They will get four medals out of six overall. The Japanese domination has increased over several years and I bet there are very few global sports where we see one country dominate so much as in bouldering. I am sure, if all countries were allowed to send more athletes, the Japanese domination would be even bigger. The worst result among the female was #35 out of 102 competitors and among the male, the second worst was #35 out of 128 athletes.

Bojan, if Janja had climbed the whole boulder season, Slovenia probably would have won the women's title as well.

(Contrary to you) when I'm thinking of domination I think about winning, not being Top-10...

@John: Possible, but I don't want to speculate about that. Same may happen with Puccio... Anyway, congrats to Miho, she has shown great consistency this season.

Talking about who has dominated, then we talk about which person has won. Talking about which country has dominated we have to look further down the list see which team has been stronger.

The final round is the most important, right? Aren't the competitions about winning?

If you wish, just call Japan has dominated in Munich, too :P
