Climbing in China, particularly around Suzhou, Jiangsu

Hey there, I'm looking for areas to go climbing in China (except for the Moon Hill stuff); I'll be based near Shanghai (Suzhou, Jiangsu to be exact). Also gyms in that area are welcome :) I think there is one in Suzhou, does anyone have information about that? Cheers

This thread is very old, but I am new to Suzho, same district as started in the thread. Does anyone have information to help connect me with climbers and climbing gyms? I really want to be outdoors climbing but work in Suzhou so need the gym, too. I've visited DuShu Lake gym, but it is very small and hard to find partners right now for the rope section. only 10 m high walls. Anything nearby taller? Where do people go? I'm eager to make friends and get outside, I hope someone on here has more information for me. Thank you!! ps. I'm here until mid-December.
Hi! Mit sure if the situation has changed in Suzhou since I spent a year there, but I always went to the gym you mentioned for bouldering ... I actually even met some Chinese guys who took me climbing outdoors once. Have no contact unfortunately. Also there is some outdoor bouldering north of the city which I managed to find online but again I have no further information anymore. Sorry. There is a small but nice bouldering gym in Shanghai (Pongo bouldering), maybe it's easier to connect to ppl there ....
Been living in china for 12 years, and i know some climbers in the Suzhou area. Unfortunately Suzhou is not the climbing hot bed of China. As mentioned, some of the gyms in Shanghai are very popular. The guys i know in Suzhou will periodically travel there for climbing...its only an hour by high speed train. While at those gyms, be friendly and get added to 1 or 2 of the local WeChat climber groups. People in Zhejiang province routinely travel to LinAn Lion Head Rock for outdoor climbing...we developed about 150 routes on some nice granite there in the past year. Also this area just had a large climbing festival last weekend. My advice is to be a friendly face and go meet some new people. They will sort you out. Cheers and good luck!
