Mysterious Pinky Injury

Hey all, My buddy recently suffered a weird finger injury, certainly involving tendons, which we can't figure out. He had his middle and ring fingers in a small, two-finger pocket, and his feet cut, stressing his fingers in the pocket before he fell. It was apparently quite painful and he immediately stopped climbing. The next day, the two fingers in the pocket looked and felt fine, but his pinky finger on the same hand was very tender and outrageously swollen, despite it not being used during the fall. Additionally, he has a large bruised area in the middle of his plan which has also swollen significantly. Any idea what is going on here. I have a basic knowledge of tendons and climbing-related finger injuries but have never seen anything like this before. Thanks a lot for any ideas you might have! ~Ian
