HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a BIG bump on the up side of (not in the palm) my Middle finger at the first joint. It hurts allot and has been hurting for more than a week. Its swollen. Can I climb? what is wrong?
by the first joint, are you talking about the joint between the finger and the palm? or the one in the middle of your finger?
Middle of my finger counting from palm and out
Hi David Sounds ike an injury to the superfgicial extensor tendon- post a picture Björn
Hi David It does look like an injury to the extensor superficialis tendon, - However -if you can straighten it and hold it straight against resistance- this is not the right diagnosis If you can't - it's a tendon rupture and you need to get it operated on within days - if more than days has elepsed -then try taping the finger straight with an "icecream stick" -this would help to let the tendon "get a grip" again -It might even be a dislokation of the joint so the best advise is to get yourself examined by a finger specialist ASAP. Björn
Thanks will find a specialist ASAP
obviously get it checked by a specialist, but the same thing happened to me about two years ago. I believe you ripped off a part of your extensor tendon - about 1/3rd of mine came off the bone and took a little piece of bone with it so the bones were able to fuse back together. I took 3 months off and then climbed on easy stuff for the following 3 months. No surgery needed though. Hope this helps.
this happened to me on bothe my middle fingers in the same week about a year ago :( didn't do anything about it and kept on climbing( not a good idea and i dont reccommend it) . I had no surgery and didn't get examined and now the bump is still there but it isn't holding me back in crimping or climbing in general. hope your finger heals soon :)
Just back from the doc and its the tendon that is off or partly off as you all have suggested. Guess no more climbing 09. I'm so sad. Know I have a fucked knee and a fucked finger. Well lets hope I can climb ice its after all the most important thing in life. Will se what the verdict is after xray.
From the look of the pic, it is only partially torn as if it were completely torn you would not be able to move your finger. What I can say is that after taking 3 months off I was able to train again, and now I am 2 years removed from the incident and I am climbing stronger than ever. Look to the future!!
