| Duct Tape Low (7A+) | Tried the V9 low as detailed in Golden State Bouldering and the right hand pocket start exploded on me...it's been 5+ days since the rain, so I think this a case of an esoteric climb having not cleaned up well (assuming the low start barely has any ascents). Was able to figure out a different sit start with a low left hand sidepull crimp (about 1 foot right of the stand start undercling), and right hand on a horizontal slash on the arete (about 1.5 feet above the detached rock). Pulled up from a sit on pads with a heel/toe cam over on the right foot, did a big slap with the right hand, and finished as per Duct Tape. Not as hard as the original V9 low, but harder than Duct Tape, so V7? Kinda turdy for sure, but the extra move is intriguing and worth doing for those that enjoy the slopers on Duct Tape. After checking around, I think this variant is a FA. There is however, another low start to Duct Tape starting matched on the stand start undercling called Gorilla Tape...so much value to be had from such a small boulder 😆 |
