9a by David Firnenburg (19) in Frankenjura

David Firnenburg has done his his fifth 9a, Black Label, which was his third in Frankenjura. As we write, the 19 year old is #1 in the 8a combined route and boulder ranking game. "It is bout 15 meters long, slightly overhanging and bouldery. Short 8b/8b+ route to a rest. Then a fingery 8A/8A+ boulder problem over the bulge. I've tried it since Easter a couple of times but the upper boulder spitted me off several times. Now the weather conditions in Frankenjura are fine. Nevertheless I'm leaving for the Alps now in order to further push my limits in bouldering. This year I plan to go the first time overseas for some rock climbing. Probably I will try some multi-pitches together with my brother Ruben too." There are now 24 routes 9a and harder in Frankenjura out of which Markus Bock has put up 17. During the last year, only six climbers have climbed a 9a there which can be compared to some 40 guys around Lleida, out of which Era Vella has gotten some eight ascents.
