Angy Eiter recommends Leonidio

Angela Eiter, the best female rock and competition climber in the history, is back from Leonidio i Greece where she opened one 8b and one 8b+, besides onsighting several routes up to 8a+. - All in all the climbing in Leonidio is fantastic and I think everybody will enjoy it. It possess a huge potential of rock, which varies from bad and good quality. Despite very good rock, it is sometimes quite fragile, too and breaks. Maybe because they are not perfectly cleaned or haven't been climbed by enough people. For the moment, some routes are still unfinished and the anker doesn't always comply with the UIAA standard which oblige two bolts at the top that are connected with a chain. The local greek people seem quite engaged in developing the climbing sport and we felt welcome everywhere we stayed. Leonidio is located 235 km southwest from Athens close to the Mediterranean. In the new Best on Greece topo, 40 pages describe the beautiful area with more than 300 routes evenly spread out between 5a and 9a. "One of the best winter crags in Europe," does it say. More info
