Yo Jmmk,I had a free vascularized fibular graft to the femoral head which is the equivalent of a hip replacement just with no prosthetics. I spent 2 months not climbing before surgery and spent 6 months on crutches post-surgery. Before surgery I was climbing V6 with the occasional 7 in there. After 6 months of training on hangboards and campus boards and also swimming a mile a day 4 days a week I came back way stronger than I had ever been before. I went from climbing the occasional 7 to pissin' on them and since have bagged several 8's and a few 9's. It has been about a year off crutches and I feel great. I stay away from highballs, that is all. I hope this will help motivate you to stay strong during recovery. I know it sucks now, but if you want it bad enough you WILL climb again!!! peace
Hi JmmkSorry for missing out on your questionThe answer you allready received are pretty adequate though two things should be emphazised 1. A hip replacement is not stable i the socket if you flex and rotate the hip fully "frogging"2. to get full function and to as much as possible avoid the above problem do frequvent slow eccentric strength training exercises for all stabelizing muscles of the hip - best consult a good physiotherapist ( why not the one working at the place that performed the surgery) explain what you want the hip to be able to cope with Best of luck Björn
I had surgery in November. Everything went quite well and fast. I'm climbing at the same level as before. Encouraging all of you that face a similar situation. Thank you all.
