Dave Graham

Dave Graham (20) - The world's best climber ever!?

Dreamtime, 8C - Cresciano 02-01-30

La Proue, 8B - Cresciano 02-01-15

8a.nu managed to get an interview with Dave Graham (or G Dogg as we like to call him), the brightest shining star on the climbing sky today. Dave has, more or less, held the first position in both bouldering- and routes rankings since he joined. The 8a.nu's scorecard shows that it's almost impossible to combine climbing and bouldering skills with the expectation of Dave!

So far, no plans or interest of competition but, we guess, that soon he needs new challenges and then he might be the number one climbing legend, ever!

Dave's the kind of guy who really, and we mean REALLY, wants to send… he wants it BAD. If he tries a problem and can't do it… not that it has happened often, he works it till he can. Not the traditional way - one try - a few minutes rest, another try - 15 minutes rest, no, no. Dave's more like: one try - no rest - …EVER. Is it wet? Doesn't matter. Are the fingers bleeding? Doesn't matter…Got the picture? This guy gotta be using Duracell…

Check out the updated Scorecard of this 180 cm (5.11) tall, 61 Kg (135) light, 20-year-old phenomenon.

What question would you ask yourself?
When the hell are you going to send Dreamtime and meet some rad girls?

Do you think there can be a "best climber in the world"?

Maybe if one were to compare climbers’ accomplishments, one could find a best climber comparatively, but climbing is too personal to each individual to compare people to each other, maybe a better question is: "Who pushes the deepest, who goes the farthest within themselves in the sport of climbing?"

What send, rope or not, do you rate the most?
Action directe was the most difficult thing I ever tried to do for myself, it was the deepest I have reached and succeeded. I think I’ve tried harder on some projects, but they are unfinished experiences so I can’t compare them...

What style/rock/angle do you prefer?
I like anything, whatever style/rock/angle, as long as it captures me as being amazing, and sparks curiosity, one of the best parts of climbing is the variety, it’s fun to find a love for everything.

What's the best climbing/bouldering area in the world?
I love traveling too much to say there is one place better then all the rest, but my favorites are RMNP, Rumney, the Tessin, and Fontainebleau, all have been invaluable to me for experience.

Do you practice any other sports?

If you do, are you any good at it? I ski when I can, usually when I go to Switzerland and see dope mountains, I don’t suck, but I’m certainly not a bad ass…

What's your best/worst side?

I'm focused on things, It’s the best and worst thing for me all together. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so focused on doing something, because it really challenges me and puts me in a hard place, but every time I succeed, or accomplish what I was trying to do, there is so much to gain from it. I guess it balances out.

What does most people not know about you that would make them surprised?
I wish I knew, that’s for them to figure out I think. What are you doing at the moment? What do you do when you’re not climbing? I climb and travel all the time pretty much. When I’m not climbing, I’m resting to climb, or traveling somewhere to climb. It’s a cool job. When I don’t climb, I do normal shit, read, go get some food, cruise around somewhere, check stuff out, you know, take it all in.

Any goals/projects/plans for the future?

My goals are simply to improve and evolve from where I am now. I just want to learn more about everything, maybe be a climbing wizard of some sort in the long run... Projects, oh yes...I guess all routes I have never done I want to do, and one specific thing, this green 45degree wall in RMNP, damn thing is so hard.

So, when the hell are you going to send Dreamtime and meet some rad girls? Dave? Hallo…

But Dave was gone… But let’s say, for all you rad girls out there: Go chase!
