9a+ by Tomas Mrazek

Tomas Mrazek has done Directa Open you mind, 9a+ in Santa Linya that was set up by Ramonet one year ago. It seems like Tomas is fully back from his injury he got this spring after trying Dani's one-finger-routes.

"It started like an inflammation bit it just did get worse even if I tried different Rehabs every week. It was mentally very hard and in the end I could not even hang-out in a crag and I actually had to stop surfing at 8a :-). It was an osteopath that made the trick but now I realize that I'm getting older. I feel like a new man with new interest like fishing and with other thoughts than climbing. "

Regarding Ondra he says, "We train together sometimes and he is actually not getting stronger but technically, he is better than me and all other top climbers."

7c+ to Andrew Bisharat new Sport Climbing book

Jens/Review: <a href="http://web.me.com/bisharata/Site/Sport_Climbing_Book.html"target="_blank">Andrew Bisharat, from Rock & Ice, has written a Sport Climbing book based on Performance and Safety techniques. It also includes some discussion of climbing ethics. Overall, there are hundreds of nice tips and tricks to help you onsight and redpoint harder, faster and safer. We give it the second highest score of 7c+ as Andrew could have added a bit more pictures and illustrations. This is the best book that I have read on the subject.

9a or 9a+ by Adam Ondra (16)

Adam Ondra has done a quick repeat of Tomas Mrazek's Xaxid Hostel in Misja Pec and he suggest a downgrade to 9a, "definitely the hardest in Misja pec. I would go rather for hard 9a than 9a+".

In 2009, Adam has done 15 routes of 9a and harder compared to 12 in 2008. The runner up in this 9a stat is Chris Sharma who did eight 9a's and harder in 2008. In 2005 and 2008, Dani Andrada recorded eight 9a's and harder.Patxi Usobiaga did six 9a's and harder in 2007.

10 years ago, many more climbers were obsessed with redpoints and media very seldom reported about onsights. This was in fact the reason why onsights did get bonus points when the scorecard was created.

What skill do you lack the most?

Endurance = 30 %
Finger strength = 26 %

One good way to increase endurance is to practice pulsating gripping technique, meaning that you release/pump the gripping hand just after every move, in order to increase blood circulation, even for a micro second.

The competition scene 2009

Among the male, it is interesting to see that there is actually no country that dominates the competition scene. Nine different countries in the first eleven spots in lead and in bouldering different countries for the first seven spots.

For the female, it is as always Slovenia who dominates with three within Top-8 and Austria are #1 and #4. In bouldering, Russia has four within Top-11.

Overall Austria is the best country, followed by France. Countries with surprisingly bad results are Germany and especially Great Britain.

La Sportiva dominates the World Cup

The four winners of the World Cup (female/male, lead/boulder) climb with La Sportiva shoes: Adam Ondra, Johanna Ernst, Kilian Fischhuber and Akiyo Noguchi.

Three out of four World Champions are also La Sportiva athletes: Yulia Abramchuk, Patxi Usobiaga and Johanna Ernst. To our knowledge, Boulder world Champion Alexey Rubtsov still does NOT have a shoe sponsor so here's your chance other shoe companies! He competed in 5.10's that he bought by himself!
